You can expect to experience the highest level of eyecare at Rangiora. A combination of our cutting-edge technology and extensive expertise gives you the confidence that your eyes are getting the attention they deserve.
Our comprehensive eye examinations last for 45 minutes. During this time we will:
Take a history: This allows us to take a holistic approach, factoring in your general health and wellbeing, as well as family history to determine any specific risk factors.
Assess your eyesight: We determine whether you have any focussing errors that need correcting to ensure you have clear vision over all distances.
Evaluate your eye health: We use the most up-to-date techniques and technology allowing us to give you the most thorough eye health examination possible. This allows us to detect eye health conditions early, such as cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye and keratoconus.
Ensure binocularity: We check that your eye muscles are moving and co-ordinating properly so that the eyes work together as a team for comfortable, sustainable vision.
Management options: We then discuss management options and come up with a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.
We incorporate the use state-of-the-art innovative technology.
Ultra-wide confocal retinal scanning
We are proud to be the only optometry practice in North Canterbury that can offer this service. The scan allows us to image up to 150 degrees of your retina to assess its structure and to identify and record any abnormalities which we can then accurately monitor and treat.
Visual field testing
We boast a gold-standard Humphries visual field analyser which allows us to test the function of the optic nerve, retina and visual pathway in the brain. This can be affected by Glaucoma, Strokes and other neurological conditions. It is very useful in detecting early changes in your peripheral vision, which you would never pick up on yourself.
Ocular coherence Tomographer (OCT)
OCTs have revolutionised the way we practice Optometry. They have become a crucial part of managing and treating eye diseases. Its ability to scan through the layers of the retina allow us to see deeper in order to diagnose and differentiate between conditions such as dry and wet macula degeneration, glaucoma, macula holes and unexplained vision loss.
Autorefractor and keratometry
An autorefractor is a very useful tool in order for us to obtain an objective power of the eye which is particularly useful for those people who find eye tests difficult and stressful. Keratometry also allows us to measure the front shape of the eye which aids in more accurate contact lens fitting, as well as the diagnosis of keratoconus.
Visi-office is cutting edge digital dispensing technology that allows for more accuracy and precision while making those crucial measurements needed to create bespoke, one-of-a-kind lenses. On top of the standard measurements required such as heights, pupillary distances, pantoscopic tilt and wrap, Visi-office also takes into account your visual behaviour, posture, where your eyes sit in relation to your frame, and even eye dominance, ensuring truly personalised lenses. Visi-office is much more accurate than the human eye can detect, measuring down to the nearest 0.1mm which ensures you will have the clearest, most natural vision possible in your new lenses.
